State Farm® Insurance Agent Mike Watson

"Initially, I thought it was a good idea to change to State Farm from Allstate which my father had for years. Mallory was very helpful at the beginning of me setting up the new policy for homeowners insurance and car insurance. However I told this company at the beginning of my policy with them that I had a problem with escrow being taken out that was not supposed to be from our mortgage company. I told them how important it was to make sure that the mortgage company did not pay the insurance themselves and to understand that we were now paying our own insurance by the month. There was a time in the past that we were unable to pay it but that is not the case now. They claimed that they had talked to them and that they understood this. I had sent numerous papers to the mortgage company proving that I was paying the insurance. Still, State Farm not only allowed the mortgage company to pay $3,551 of our home insurance against our will, which is payment for the entire year. (No one pays their entire premium at one time). This is what drives the mortgage payment up when they add the escrow to it. Then once the mortgage company realized it was partly their fault, they were willing to reverse it and give us that money back so that the escrow would not be stacked on top of our mortgage payment. They even sent a refund to State Farm. Unfortunately, (and this is the reason I'm dropping them as soon as possible), State Farm decided that they wanted to keep the payment they had received from our mortgage company which kept the escrow in place and the higher mortgage for us to have to pay. (Our mortgage went from $392 to $890!) This has created a big hardship for us until we're out from under this. I will never again recommend State Farm and we will drop it after this current term is over so we can handle it ourselves.

In regards to Mike's comment, the problem was not lack of help. It was a total misunderstanding of what we needed regarding this problem with escrow. It has cost us thousands of dollars. And also just a basic misunderstanding regarding things like the auto policy. I told her clearly on the phone that, no I had originally stated online that I wanted to cancel, I said on the phone I did not want it canceled yet. Your staff needs to listen better and pay attention to what customers are saying and to be more diligent to protect their interests."
